"Wikipedia 10" subpages

I'd like to kill "Wikipedia 10"'s subpages. It doesn't make any sense to disambiguate (or sort) like this when the whole wiki is already devoted to Wikipedia 10. Pages like "Wikipedia 10/New York City" should be moved to "Organize/New York City" in my opinion. Thoughts? --MZMcBride 20:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I'm working on getting the wiki logo fixed right now. It'll load from File:Wiki.png, hopefully.

Using an "Organize" base might be nice because you can dynamically list pages with a common prefix. You can also dynamically list pages in a category, though, too. Either way (using a common base or a category) will work, it should just be consistent. It really depends whether you like "New York City" or "Organize/New York City" better. There should be an "Organize" link in the sidebar, for sure. --MZMcBride 21:23, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey shouldn't you get the Wikipedia 10 mark or something similar for the logo.Theo10011 22:25, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the logo needs to be a tad-bit smaller, me thinks. Can I get an admin flag while you're at it? I can help around. Theo10011 21:34, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help section

Thanks Steven, I think we need to put up a Resources section, with guidelines (if there are any?) or a help section on how to go about organizing, I'm going to take a crack at it if thats OK. Theo10011 21:56, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A recommendation for the share page- I saw a couple of places are already organizing facebook based parties like Denmark, that should probably be the easiest to arrange, we can suggest joining one of these events online or organize a similar facebook party for others that can't attend, your thoughts? Theo10011 01:55, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flag Rights

Hi, Can I get an admin flag on this site? I am sysop Strategic Planning, Outreach and some Wiki project (viwiki, viwikt, vibooks, viquote). I am needing cleanup and translate some things. Thank you very much! --minhhuy*= (talk) 09:20, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, why the hell are you asking for sysop flag anywhere you go? Adminship is not an award. Diego Grez 13:28, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, translate Sidebar is main work if I has sysop flag :) --minhhuy*= (talk) 00:31, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I recognize minhhuy from Meta, where he has indeed helped with the translations. If you can translate Vietnamese, that would be most welcome. You have the sysop flag now. (Diego, if you want to help out with admin stuff too, it's No Big Deal here. ) Steven Walling at work 01:43, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... If I have some time this Sunday, I'd like to translate the sidebar... Diego Grez 03:15, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tou're welcome! On the contrary, thank you for creating such a wonderful site for celebrating tenth anniversary of Wikipedia. Can I please ask you to localize the menu bar on the left side? I mean, there are just 5 words to be translated - Organize into ორგანიზება, Share into გაზიარება, Design into დიზაინი, Ideas into მოსაზრებები & FAQ into ხშირი შეკითხვები? Thank's! --Gaeser 20:13, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did some of it at MediaWiki:Sidebar/ka; can you see if that works? There are some other words that need translating too (like "navigation"). Steven: Mind making Gaeser an admin so he can update this? Thanks. PeterSymonds 20:21, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thank's all. Well, unfortunately it doesn't work yet :(. Thank for granting the sysop rights, I'll do my best here. :)--Gaeser 20:28, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:

Hi, thanks for the welcome message. I heard from WMI a few days ago (I'm a former member) and I'd say they are going to something but nothing concrete yet. I guess they do need to solve this controversy about gadgets with the Foundation, and in the meantime they're busy with the fundraising (and, oh, with a 20 million euros lawsuit too). I'll translate something if I find the time, I just came to write an idea about offline contents as giveaways but then realized it sounds too old. PS: Yes, everybody is having fun with Jimmy's face... --Elitre 22:02, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update, no serious plans on the way. Elitre 12:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Catalan translation

Sure! We would like to do big things! :D Thanks for your welcoming. --Martorell 19:12, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Er… How could I translate the sidebar? Maybe Mediawiki:Sidebar/ca?. --Martorell 19:31, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I just get how to do. ;) --Martorell 19:33, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Steven, One question, all the progress of the organization will be puted on the main page of event? --Ivanmartinez 19:46, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Steven, can I please ask you contact me by Email? There are some questions asked by the community, and I would like to send them to you :)--Gaeser 11:05, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Babel boxes

Hi Steven, thanx for the adminship. Don't hesitate to poke me in other places if you know something needs to be updated and I don't see it. I think it would be great to implement Babel boxes here (User language). Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks! notafish 09:53, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Urgh. I have no clue how to update the sidebar ;) notafish 10:17, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mediawiki:Sidebar :) Steven, could you remove the uselang=ka from MediaWiki:Sharedupload-desc-here; it's giving me Georgian Commons links. Ta. Fetchcomms 16:26, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But the French sidebar? It's all kaputt :( notafish 21:05, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The French sidebar is in French, but it points to all the English pages. Is this a bug or a feature? I wanted to have the sidebar point by default to the French pages if possible/desirable. notafish 22:32, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jimbo in Bristol 13th Jan

Some local wikipedia editors are looking to organise a wiki meetup in conjunction with the talk in Bristol on the 13th Jan. We already have some media interest & its generating lots of traffic on local blogs etc. Two questions:

  • Can we invite Jimbo to the pub for the meetup afterwards?
  • How do we get some merchandising materials for the events?

Merchandise

Hi Steve, Thank you for the message. Yes before you send the packages just let me know how many you are sending with enough time so that I can ask more package if we need. Query to you, Who is going to pay the shipping charges?--Bellayet 08:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

0x20

Thanks for the welcome. We (people from 0x20, the hackerspace in Gent) are still in the process of deciding what exactly to do, and will discuss this event on our next meeting. Will update you with more info as soon as we have it :)

Hi. At the moment some events are specific only for en wiki "Wikipedia user registration becomes obligatory for the creation of a new article". Probably only in en. So, I didn't know about it. Thx :) Przykuta 23:29, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We could use some stories from: Template:Wikipedia, Wikipedia:UuU and... Category:Wikipedia history. Przykuta 23:46, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Those are great ideas. Steven Walling at work 23:55, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

10 years' merchandising pack

Hi, Steven! My name is Patricio Lorente, I belong to Wikimedia Argentina, and I need to konw what's in the merchandising package and if you can send it to us. In that case, what do you need from us. Thank you! Patricio.lorente 00:44, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Steven, I had sent a mail regarding the merchandise for Bangalore sometime back and haven't heard from you. Just to update 500 (10 cartons) might be needed looking at scale of things now. Logicwiki 18:30, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm emailed you with the same theme. Thanks, --Ivanmartinez 18:45, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(My English is bad, too, lol) Hello, just to be sure. You mean a vietnamese member will contact you by email, sent you event's member volume and his address (something like A/B, Street C, Distric D, HCMC, Vietnam) and Wikimedia Foundation will sent "t-shirts, stickers, and buttons", that all, right?-- 04:45, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Bot

Steve,

should I run the welcome bot here? --Jyothis 19:00, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've run welcome bots before, but I actually prefer to welcome by hand since I only find it valuable to welcome users who have made some sort of substantive edit and are clearly interested in sticking around. Make sense? Steven Walling at work 19:01, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. as you please :) --Jyothis 19:03, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, hope you find the Edittools useful - do we need anything more on it? --Jyothis 19:03, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Very well then. --Jyothis 19:07, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sysop

Hello, I asked on IRC where I could get the SYSOP bit on this location ( tenwiki ) and was told to ask you. I would like to assist in the moderation of pages as this grows and also as the mediawiki interface, making it look modern or slightly different as we are celebrating a BIG time in our Wikipedia history. Thanks so much in advance. Joe Gazz84 01:23, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, no problem. You might want to read the WP:VP note about event deletion too, FYI. Thanks for helping, Steven Walling at work 20:40, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. My bot User:Dfergbot is also helping there. I asked for a bot flag at the VP. Can it be granted too? Thank you, --Dferg 17:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

Hello! May I get an administrator rights on this wiki? I'll block obvious vandals and delete nonsense articles. Thanks! JenVan 19:37, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The organizer of the Bhopal event claims to be one of the youngest Wikipedia administrators on the English Wikipedia project. However, upon repeated questioning over email by Srinivas ( w:en:User:Gurubrahma ) and I, he hadn't identified himself to us. Later, over Facebook, he communicated to me that he was w:en:User:Arbitrarily0 on the English Wikipedia, but then I found these edits: [1], [2]. I have left a message on w:en:User talk:Arbitrarily0[3].

I think this fraudulent misrepresentation warrants salting Bhopal because we cannot be certain of the kind of statements this person can potentially make to the public and the press. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 22:46, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is also a legal issue: users under the age 14 should not disclose their actual age and personal information on any Wikimedia site. Steven Walling at work 22:47, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He claims to be 15 and he is not bound by US federal law. He has previously attempted to remove Indore's entry using another account User:Theintuitus. From my brief interaction with him on facebook and the subsequent research on en.wp and ten.wp, he appears to be a compulsive liar. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 22:58, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would definitely go ahead and revdelete (if possible) the parts mentioning the youngest admin. I don't think we should delete and salt the entire Bhopal event just yet. Steven Walling at work 23:00, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steven, please help me. The event is in three days. I need to know the status of the consignment. Thanks. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington 12:55, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steven, can you let me know the tracking details of the FedEX consignment for Indore? It would be great if you can get back in a couple of hours. We have our event tomorrow and the local FedEx office, being a franchisee cannot track unless they have the consignment no. :( --Gurubrahma 09:39, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can I have a response pl.? The event is done and dusted but it'd be nice if I can give some stuff to volunteers. --Gurubrahma 07:44, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of the Wikipedia Song

The song was actually composed last week using text from Wikipedia but specifically due to the celebrations. It is a completely original work. Could we please put it back on the share page? Italyface 03:31, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate deletion of Phoenix Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary event

Good morning. I believe that I was blocked illegally by MZMcBride when I tried to edit the event in Phoenix, Arizona, or at a minimum, without being given a warning or the specific details of the charges against me. My account has since been unblocked, but someone from Directrix Computing Solutions once stated:

"Please note that this is an event to celebrate Wikipedia, will have activities surrounding that end, but is also catered toward a business crowd. If you are in the Phoenix valley and wish to celebrate this event in a different manner, please setup a different event. To setup your own event, please click this link: http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organize or click the 'Organize' link located to the left of this text. If you are not associated with the planning crew for this event, please do not update this information. Thank you."

Someone else who was not an administrator then deleted his event. In my opinion, Chris Warrington was blocked having done nothing wrong, and he has as much right to set up a Wikipedia event as anyone else. Additionally, I think that the following is also vandalism "http://ten.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Phoenix,_AZ&diff=prev&oldid=7907:", as the person who edited the event was probably not affiliated with the event. I have not seen one shred of evidence that this event violates Wikipedia policy, and MZMcbride has still failed to provide us with a reason for blockage. Thank you very much for your attention to these matters.--Jax 0677 22:13, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
