From Wikipedia 10

Welcome!

Hi Dusti, and welcome to Wikipedia 10. This wiki is used for organising events relating to Wikipedia's 10th anniversary on January 15, 2011. Some the things you can do are:

  • Find an event to attend
  • Organize your own event
  • Share ideas for making the anniversary awesome and remembering the last decade
  • Check out the designs to use and make your own versions

Please be bold in updating pages! If you have any queries about how the wiki works, feel free to ask at the Village Pump, read the FAQ, or experiment with editing in the Sandbox.

Again, welcome!

Dear Dusti:

1. I would like to see the event at Sapporo Scottsdale posted by DirectrixCX reinstated as one of two events in the Valley, unless there is shown a good reason for deleting the event in its entirety. As far as I can tell, DirectrixCX did nothing wrong in posting his event, and should never have been blocked. I am afraid if I repost it, that I will be blocked again. I have posted evidence that DirectrixCX is doing this as a charity event, and that they welcomed other people to set up their own events.

2. The person who vandalized the event posted by DirectrixCX should be given a vandalism warning. MZMcBride was expedient in blocking me, but is slow in their attempts to answer my questions. I have left messages for MZMcBride and Steven Walling, but have received no reply to date.

Here is a letter from Chris Warrington of Directrix Computer Solutions:

"Thank you for this information. I am not sure if you are associated with Wikipedia or not, but I wish to assure you that the event that we are hosting is for a Wikipedian celebration. It saddens me that someone would delete our information from the site without first contacting me to verify our intentions.

I am a local business person who uses Wikipedia in many different aspects of my life, both personal and business related. I talked with like-minded business people and we decided to throw a birthday celebration to talk with other business people about how they use online technologies like Wikipedia to further their organizations. The donations requested are going to be given straight to the Wikimedia Foundation as will the money received from the door prizes. And we had some ideas on how to make this centered around Wikipedia as the main focus through activities and favors.

As you mentioned in your email, all of these events are being put on by volunteers. And each group is from a different walk of life with a different focus. One of the many great things about Wikipedia. The way that I celebrate and think is in a business manner, thus the business networking portion of this event. We were not trying to tag on and use this as a gimmick or trying to be unethical in any manner. If there is another group in the Phoenix area that would like to get together with a different way of celebrating, that is wonderful. But, it does sadden me that they felt the need to delete our post without first consulting me."

That is all. Thank you very much for your attention.--Jax 0677 01:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After careful research here, it looks like this is a huge jumbled mess. As a sysop here, I've got to take in consideration the concerns that others have put forth, and make a decision. It does indeed look like this event is one of two things. Either SPAM or an event that will only benefit the corporation that's hosting it. I'm sorry, but we only want events that are going to celebrate Wikipedia's 10th Birthday, and this doesn't look like it's going to do so - or if it does - there's a hidden hope behind it. If you want to discuss this further, Email me from the "Email this user" link to the side under Toolbar. Thank you, Dusti*poke* 22:33, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No Test Edit

Hi Dusti, this was no test edit. I wanted to point out, that the Skype-account listed is not yet registered at Skype, in other words you cannot conntact them via Skype yet. The same goes with the Graz-event, but I did not note this after your revert. Now I saw today, that you believed my edit a test-edit. Perhaps you want to check if the Skype-dial-in formation for Washington and Graz are correct and than take the necessary action yourself. Regards --Wuselig 10:46, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of inserting that it doesn't work, try contacting the individual who placed the Skype contact, or leave a message on the talk page. Dusti*poke* 22:30, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

co-founder

I saw your conversation with Jimmy where he said he didn't care, but no - I don't think that I've seen you give any specific reasons for reverting edits by 3 or more other folks, removing "co-" which was used early on, and is in the wikipedia pages, and seems more accurate than an "official" title. But I haven't followed the discussions at the wikipedia pages very closely, and wonder why the foundation changed the title. NealMcB 16:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It was removed because it was inaccurate, and the individual holding the Founder status said what it should be. So therefore, please stop reverting and if you have an issue, take it up on his talk page. Dusti*poke* 17:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This all seems pretty clear to me from History of Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Press releases/January 2002. You've presented no evidence other than a statement by someone who a) says he doesn't care and b) has a conflict of interest. If you can get this changed in the places that really matter (w:Jimmy Wales and w:History_of_Wikipedia), then we can change it here. But this is hardly the place to be having the historical debate.
