Location?

I assume this is the Archives location at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street NW (just off the National Mall), rather than College Park, MD (or some other location I don't even know about)? Kingdon 01:20, 19 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's correct. I think they would like to host us at College Park at some other time, and see what's out there. The downtown location (NARA I) has everything up to the Civil War and College Park has holdings for the time period since, and things like maps. Aude 01:42, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Archive 2 is only 1920ish and later, FYI. It is a more modern looking building with conference rooms in the basement. Ottava Rima 07:41, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DC in the movies?

Would anyone be interested in a special talk from movie professionals about "'National Treasure' at the Archives" or 'DC in the movies' (or something similar)? I might be able to try to arrange something like that (but not sure). Shearonink 12:41, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are we arranging sessions by Wikimedians?

Shouldnt we talk about projects, past, present and future too? :) --Jyothis 01:41, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we want to hear from Wikimedians about what they are doing, what's interesting, etc. I added a section for people to signup to give lightning talks. Please signup! Aude2 02:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do we get Wifi?

Does NARA have a wifi connection available? --Jyothis 21:18, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, they have wifi. However, they do block ports like IRC, ssh, ... and we'll have to see how it handles so many Wikipedians. Aude 00:15, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Jyothis, if you remind me I will bring my cellular modem for you. Ottava Rima 05:39, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move to en.wikipedia

Since this event will be held in an English speaking nation, would it make more sense to have these pages on en.wikipedia so that more people will be able to use their sign-ons? 66.173.140.100 19:25, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. People can use their enwiki id here --Jyothis 20:04, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Activities for kids?

This seems to be an all adult affair. Is there anything of interest for kids (Mine ages 6-10 already use Wikipedia)? --Zemoxian 16:21, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... the tour would probably interesting. Maybe they want to learn how to edit? Maybe staying the entire day would be a bit much, though. Aude 02:15, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Parking?

Any ideas/suggestions for affordable parking in the area? --Concord 01:56, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The City Center Parking lot (former convention center site & current megabus stop) on 9th St, between New York Avenue & H St costs $10 for all day on the weekend. [1] Probably as cheap as it gets. Aude 02:04, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! That sounds good. --Concord 02:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the dress code?

What should we wear for the day program and what is the dress code for the dinner?

Casual is absolutely okay for the entire day. Dinner / happy hour is at a pub, so casual good there too. Cheers. Aude 23:35, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU

Today was awesome. Thank you to all the amazing people I met. The amazing people who tolerated my talk about WP:Public Art. Katie and all the great folks who put this together and got us the cutest cupcakes ever, and the National Archives for supporting us and being so great. I had such a great afternoon and evening "bonding" with my fellow Wikipedians, it makes me love what I do even more. Thank you. Missvain 06:24, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I also wish I could have gotten more photos and I'm bummed we didn't get a group photo. I became rather engrossed during the majority of the lightning talks and later discussions that I spaced out on taking photos of the speakers! Missvain 05:32, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It was great to meet you and even to tolerate your talk (and the rest of your commentary afterward). Too bad about the group photo, but the rest are good (and I find it amusing that the one where I look most serious and engaged involves skeeball). And thanks to everyone else who came; it was a really great event and I hope especially to see some of the new faces more often in the future. Mindspillage 05:38, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More thanks!

I want to add my thanks, as well. This was my first 'meet up' and I really enjoyed it. Thanks to all who worked hard to make it happen. A truly enjoyable event. Wikipelli 19:57, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
